Datta Jayanti is a Hindu festival celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Datta, which is the day Datta Principle became active on earth. This festival is celebrated on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Margashirsha.

In ancient times there was a very austere rishi called Atri. He was believed to be the son of Brahmadev, since he was born from the splendour of Brahmadev's eyes. His wife's name was Anasuya, who was a model of conjugal fidelity, Pativrata Dharma – unparalleled devotion to her husband.
Goddesses Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati wanted to test Anusuya’s Pativrata Dharma, so they sent their husbands Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh to test her. Trimurthi then transformed into three Sanyasis and came as guests to Anusuya. Anasuya at once welcomed the guests. She got food ready for them and requested them to accept the meal. They then said that they would eat only on one condition. The strange condition was that Anasuya should serve them the food without any clothes on.
Anasuya was dumbfounded. She was in a great dilemma, then by the
power of her Pativrata Dharma the pious lady took some water and sprinkled it on the three Sanyasis in order to clean their feet before giving food. Immediately, the three Sanyasis were transformed into three babies. The babies began to cry. She kept them in a cradle and with great love she began to rock them. Anasuya suddenly felt like she is a mother and fed the three babies with her milk. Thus she gave alms to the Trimurtis in the way they wanted it. Soon Atri Maharshi returned and realized that the three babies were Trimurtis who had come to fulfill the wish of Anasuya. The sage embraced the three children and they suddenly took the single form of Dattatreya.

Sri Guru Datta is the son of Anasuya & Atri and therefore his name became Dattatreya. Dattatreya learned the Vedas and then began to teach them. Anasuya wanted him to get married. But Dattatreya was pleased with his celibate state. So after instructing her on Brahmavidya (doctrine of Brahma) he obtained her permission and left home to serve the entire world. Dattatreya remained an Avadutha – a sage who remains pure by nature. He was the supreme yogi. Dattatreya narrated the secrets of Vedanta to Lord Subrahmanya and this teaching later came to be known as Avadhuta Gita.

While Shri Dattatreya was the primal manifestation in "Datta Sampradaya" and Guru tradition, His incarnations are:
1. Shripad SriVallabh

Dattatrya Avatar --- Trimurthi Svarupa
Object in the hand-----Who it represents
1. Lord Brahma--------- Kamandalu( He always carries a bowl so as to teach us the lesson that we will have to share our wealth and food with others) and Japamala(Signifies chanting the sacred name of the Lord)
2. Lord Vishnu-------Shankh (conch- represents the eternal sound ‘OM’) and Chakra ( the wheel -Signifies indicates that He is beyond the cycles of time i.e. the past, present and future and His holding of 'chakra' means He is the controller of time).
3. Lord Shiva--------Trishul( He has transcended the three gunas, which constitute the illusory world: Sattva-illumination, Rajas-activity and Tamas-inertia) and Damaru
4. The Cow, which is always with Him, represents the Mother Earth and Dharma. She is the wish fulfilling cow 'Kamadhenu'.
5. The four dogs symbolise the four Vedas – the external repositories of Spiritual Wisdom.

Navaratri at Viswa Sai

Devi Navaratri Celebrations at Viswa Sai

Hello Sai devotees,

With the divine blessings of “Sri Samarda Sadguru Sai Maharaj & Guru Vani Amma” let us all celebrate Devi Navaratri at ”Viswa Sai” temple. Sri Shridi Sai Baba has taken Maha Samandhi on Vijaya Dasami. Its Baba’s ”PunyaThidhi”. The word "Navarathri" literally mean "nine nights". Devi Navaratri is celebrated from the first to the ninth date of Ashwin (Aswayuja masam) Shukla Paksha of the Hindu Calendar for the worship of the Goddess Durga. This festival commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon "Mahishasur". Nine different manifestations of Durga are worshipped over the nine days.

Creation Of Goddess: Goddess Durga represents a united front of all Divine forces against the forces of evil and the wicked. The God's in heaven decided to create an all-powerful being to kill the demon king Mahishasur who was preparing to attack them. At that very moment a stream of lightning dazzled forth from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and it turned into a beautiful, magnificent woman with ten hands. Then the three God's bestowed her with (their) special weapons.

Pandavas :According to our great epic Mahabharat, Pandavas after wandering in the forest for 12 years, hung their weapons on a Shami tree before joining the court of king Virat to spend the last one year in disguise. After the completion of that one year on Vijayadashmi, the day of Dassera, they brought down the weapons from the Shami tree and declared their true identity. Since that day the exchange of Shami leaves on Dassera day became symbols of good will and victory.

Lord Rama:This festival has immense mythological significance. As per Ramayan, Lord Rama performed the "Chandi-Puja" and invoked the blessings of Durga to kill Ravana, the ten-headed king of Lanka who has abducted Seeta and had a charmed life. Durga divulged the secret to Lord Rama about how he could defeat/kill Ravana. Then after vanquishing him, Ram with Seeta and Laxman returned victorious to his kingdom of Ayodhya on Diwali day.
Dussera can also be interpreted as "Dasa-Hara", which means the cutting of the ten heads of Ravana. So, let us resolve today to cut the ten heads--passion, pride, anger, greed, infatuation, lust, hatred, jealousy, selfishness and crookedness--of the demon, and thus justify the celebration of Dussera.

Kautsa: Kautsa, the young son of Devdatt, insisted on his guru Varatantu to accept "gurudakshina", after finishing his education. After lots of persistence his Guru, finally asked for 14 crore gold coins, one crore for each of the 14 sciences he taught Kautsa. Kautsa went to king Raghuraj, who was known for his genorisity and was an ancestor of Rama. But just at that time he had emptied all his coffers on the Brahmins, after performing the Vishvajit sacrifice. So, the king went to Lord Indra and asked for the gold coins. Indra summoned Kuber, the god of wealth. Indra told Kuber, "Make a rain of gold coins fall on the "shanu" and "apati" trees round Raghuraja's city of Ayodhya." The rain of coins began to fall. The king Raghu gave all the coins to Kautsa, who gave 14 crore gold coins to his guru. The remaining coins were lavishly distributed to the people of Ayodhya city. This happened on the day of Dussehra. In remembrance of this event the custom is kept of looting the leaves of the "apati" trees and people present each other these leaves as "sone" (gold).

Pooja starts at 10.00 AM everyday followed by aarthi at 12.00PM. Please bring your pooja Thali / Plate which includes -turmeric, Kumkum, Akshantha( rice mixed with turmeric), Agarbathi , tambulam( optional) , naivedyam ( optional, if you want to offer ) & books ( Lakshmi Stotram, Ashtothram & Lalitha Sahastranamam). We request devotees to please take the remaining prasadam home after offering it to Lakshmi Devi & Viswa Sai.

"

Sai Devotees Pranamums ,

Today, very humble to announce that Sri Shirdi Sai Baba blessed our Federal Way Saidevotees after 2 years of Sai Bhajan, Sai Charitra parayanams with atmost Shradda & Saburi by way of a having Sri Shirdi Sai baba Idol for Sai Prayers and Pooja.

With the Divine Blessings of Samarda Sadguru Sri Sainath Maharaj and Guru Vanamma, Let us all get together to perform Sri Samarda Sadguru Sri Sainath Maharaj Idol pooja at the residence of Smt Vandana & Sri Viswa Prasad Thumbalam gooty on September 3rd, 2008 (ie. Wednesday) at divine Sumuhurat 6.23 PM. as per Sai Baba's words.

Events:
1. Vishnu Sahasra Namavali at 5.30 PM
2. Sai Nama Sankeertana at 6.10 P.M
3. Ganesh Astottara namavali & Sai astottara namavali at 6.23 P.M
4. Sai Bhajan 6.40 P.M(few bhajan songs only)
5. Sai Arathi at 7:00 PM.

Divine Miracle: Three Weeks back Sai Devotee Viswa prasad has brought 1 1/2 feet Idol of Sri Sai baba from India intending that it can be taken to our weekly Sai Baba Bhajan which will be held at a host Devotees house every week, but due to busy in his work he could not come to bhajan and reveal this to us. This week he attended the bhajan and informed us about Baba's idol. We were surprised by his atmost devotion and we realized that he brought Samarda Sadguru Sai Baba himself in the form of idol.
Later few devotess, like Smt. Rama & Nagi Andole, Chi.Vishal.Chitturi, Smt. Nirmala & Sai.Potharaj, Chi.Neelima, Nikhila and Namratha.Potharaj , Smt. Vandana & Viswa Prasad Thumbalamgooty, Smt. Sridevi & Laxmoji.Ventrapragada got assembled at Viswa prasad's residence on August 31st 2008 at arround 4.00 PM to speak with Vanamma to take blessings and talk about the Baba's Idol. One of Sai devotee, Laxmoji had a dream of Shirdi Sai baba in the form of Idol twice and told the same to Viswa Prasad that it might be indication that Baba himself came in the form of Idol.

While talking to Vanamma over telephone on speaker phone, miraculously Vanamma could visualize Viswa prasad's residence, which she never visited before. Over the telephone she has guided us to Baba's photo which was put on the wall behind us. She also told us about the door and a room next to Sai baba's photo located in north east of the house. Hearing to Vanamma's words every one present over there were astonished and felt her divine presence. Sai baba conveyed though Vanamma that he came in the form of Idol and would like to sit in the front room exactly where there was a passage earlier. This passage was recently closed by the host family which no one knows about it and it was covered with a wooden book shelf. Vanama even mentioned about this door that no longer existed now. Every one present over there were mesmarised with this divine experince. Guru Vanamma suggested a Muhurtham to place Sai baba's idol in the above mentioned place on Ganesh Chathurdi(Sri Vinayaka Chavithi) at 6.23 PM on 3rd September,08.

This miracle can also be added to numerous other divine miracles shown by Guru "Vanamma".

We thought of sharing this miracle with every Sai devotee. Seeing this the host couple were extremely happy and were ready to do what ever Baba likes. Host couple is very lucky to have an opportunity to serve Sadguru in this way.

On this auspicious movement I would like to recite the evolution of Divali and its significance.

ORIGINS OF DIVALI: Divali is a Hindu festival celebrated in India and across the world on Amaavasya, that is, the fifteenth night of the dark fortnight of the month of Kaartik (October/November). The word "Divali" is a variation of the Sanskrit word "Deepavali" - Deepa meaning light and Avali, meaning a row. This festival has been referred to as Divali, Diwali, Dipavali and Deepavali among other variations. Generally, however, it is considered the Festival of Lights. Traditionally, it is marked by the lighting of deeyas which are made from clay and filled with oil or ghee. Devotees also clean their homes and surroundings wear new clothing and give charity to the needy.

The Goddess Lakshmi: Divali represents the day Lord Vishnu (the Preserver) married Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth and prosperity). The marriage of Lord Vishnu to Goddess Lakshmi denotes the connection between preservation and wealth

The Story of Rama and Sita: Divali is the return of Lord Rama (Lord Ram) and his wife Sita to Ayodhya after their fourteen year exile. This is related in the Ramayana (i.e. the Story of Rama). It tells the tale of how Lord Rama, with the aid of the monkey warrior, Hanuman, vanquished the evil king Ravana of Lanka and rescued his wife Sita who had been captured.

The day he destroyed Ravana was called Dussehra, and the day on which he returned to Ayodhya was called Divali.
Throughout Ayodhya devotees were fasting, anxiously waiting for the arrival of Lord Ram. Ram returned to Ayodhya with Sita and was greeted with joy and celebrations and the people lighted rows of clay lamps welcome him. This signified the triumph of good over evil and the coming of God-consciousness into the life of the devotee

The Defeat of Narakaasura by Lord Krishna: Another story behind the evolution of Divali is that Lord Krishna destroyed Narakaasura with the aid of his consort Satyabhaama

The Story of King Mahabali and the Dwarf: To check King Mahabali's power. Vishnu came to earth in the form of a dwarf (Vamana) dressed as a priest.

The dwarf approached King Mahabali and asked if he would you give him the space that he could cover with three strides. King Mahabali agreed to the dwarf's request and at this point, the dwarf changed into Vishnu and his three strides covered the Earth, the Skies and the whole Universe! King Mahabali was sent to the underworld. Lord Vishnu however, granted him one wish because of his magnanimous nature. Thus, Mahabali is allowed to visit the earth for one day a year (Divali) and his subjects light deyas and join in joyful celebration

The Philosophy: Through learning, man is expected to advance to the stage of enlightenment in which he realizes that God is the Light of lights, and that God brings warmth, love and illumination to all beings and therefore there can be no light greater than God.

The aim of Divali celebrations is to get man moving on the spiritual path and ultimately attain illumination by becoming one with God. As they light the lamps in their houses, those celebrating Divali are reminded to light the lamps of wisdom, goodness and God-consciousness in themselves. It is through this, that they can attain the
