Srirasthu Subhamasthu Avignamasthu !

Dear Sai Devottees ,
Pranamam.. " Virodhinama Ugadhi Subhakankshallu " = " Happy Ugadhi / New Year "

Ugadi is the New Year’s Day for the people of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It is also celebrated in Maharashtra as Gudi Padwa. Sindhi people observe the same day as Sindhi New Year’s Day, Cheti Chand. Since the Saka calendar begins with the month of Chaitra, Ugadi is celebrated on the first day of the New Year.

Legends of Ugadi – Yugadi:The Yugadi or Ugadi observance has many legends or stories around it. Some of them are accurately describe the scene.

When KaliYuga has started – the beginning of KaliYuga:“Yesmin Krishno DivamVyataha, Tasmat eeva pratipannam Kaliyugam”, these Sanskrit verses of the great Sage Vedavyasa explains that Kali Yuga has started at the time when Lord Krishna passed away. Yugadi, pronounced as Ugadi, represents the beginning of a new Yuga (era). Some famous historians of India date the starting of KaliYuga to 3102BC.

As per the lunar calendar the time is computed in terms of -
Vighadiya = 6 times the time taken to flap the eyelid
Ghadiya = 60 vighadiyas
Jamu = 7 ½ Ghadiyas
Tithi=8 Jamus (equivalent to day)

And the whole time is categorised into four Yugas namely -
Satya Yuga or Krita Yuga with 17,28,000 years
Thretha Yuga with 12,96,000 years
Dwapara Yuga with 8,64,000 years
Kali Yuga with 4,32,000 years
This in fact is no new to us. They are nothing but the Golden Age, Silver Age, Copper Age and Iron Age - the four eras of major reference in those good old History lessons at School!
Samvatsara is a Sanskrit term for "year ". In Hindu tradition, there are 60 Samvatsaras, each of which has a name. Once all 60 samvatsaras are over, the cycle starts over again.
